In the Iranian ghost town of Bad City, a lone vampire roams the streets. The townspeople are unaware that they are being stalked by this creature, who is particularly drawn to the most depraved denizens of the city. Among them is Hossein (Arash Marandi), a young man whose drug-addicted father has forced him into prostitution to feed his habit. One night, Hossein tries to rob a gas station owned by Attar (Marsh Mokhtari), who happens to be the vampire's latest victim. However, Attar sees through Hossein's plan and offers him a deal: he will not report him to the police if Hossein agrees to deliver a package for him. Meanwhile, the vampire, dressed in a chador, sees Hossein leaving the gas station and follows him home.
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is a 2014 film directed by Ana Lily Amirpour, known for being one of the first Iranian female directors to make an international splash with her debut feature. The film blends genres, combining elements of horror, romance, and Westerns, all shot in black-and-white with a powerful soundtrack. It's set in the desolate Iranian ghost town of Bad City, where loneliness and depravity reign. At its core, it's a love story between two tortured souls - Hossein, a young man forced into prostitution, and The Girl (Sheila Vand), a vampire who stalks the town's most miserable inhabitants. The film explores themes of loneliness, prostitution, drugs, and power, all through the lens of a female vampire in a unique setting.
