In 'Hackers', a teenager named Dade Murphy (Jonny Lee Miller) hacks into an oil company's computer system as a prank, causing millions of dollars in damage. Arrested by the U.S. Secret Service and banned from using computers until his 18th birthday, he becomes known as 'Zero Cool'. Years later, he teams up with a group of young hackers, including Kate Libby (Angelina Jolie), to uncover a plot involving a dangerous computer virus designed to steal money from banks worldwide. Pursued by the Secret Service, who mistakenly believe Zero Cool is behind the virus, and the mastermind behind it all, Eugene 'The Plague' '303', they must use their hacking skills to find evidence while trying to clear Zero Cool's name.
Directed by Iain Softley, 'Hackers' (1995) is an American crime thriller film that combines elements of cyberpunk, drama, romance, and techno-thriller. The story revolves around the world of hacking and computer viruses, set against the backdrop of New York City's vibrant underground culture in the mid-90s. Despite its futuristic premise, the movie is notable for its instructive portrayal of early internet culture and the ethical dilemmas surrounding technology use.
