Argumento
Happiness follows the interconnected lives of several individuals struggling with their personal issues in suburban New Jersey. The story revolves around Bill Maplewood ( Dylan McDermott ), a man struggling with his sexuality and pedophilia tendencies, and his affair with a teenage girl, Helen ( Elizabeth Ashley ). His wife, Cathy ( Jane Adams ), discovers his secret life and leaves him, causing their children, Billy ( Jonathan Tucker ) and Chantelle ( Cynthia Stevenson ), to suffer emotionally. Meanwhile, the Maplewoods' neighbors, Allen ( Philip Seymour Hoffman ) and his sister Joy ( Janeane Garofalo ), deal with their own issues of loneliness and sexual frustration. Allen, unable to express his feelings for Joy, engages in obscene phone calls. Joy, unhappy with her life, becomes obsessed with a former classmate who she believes is perfect. The lives of these characters intertwine as they desperately search for human connection.
