Léa, an orphaned student living with her grandmother in Le Havre, struggles to balance her studies and caregiving responsibilities when her grandmother's mental state begins to deteriorate. After a frightening incident where her grandmother wanders off at night, Léa arranges for full-time care in an institution. To cover increased expenses, including her grandmother's therapy costs, Léa starts working as a stripper in a nightclub, earning additional money through lap dances. Between shifts and university classes, she begins a relationship with the brasserie owner, but their affair ultimately fails due to Léa's erratic behavior stemming from her stressful situation. Meanwhile, a vain professor at the university picks on Léa during lectures due to her punctuality issues and lack of enthusiasm for his attempts at humor. After being repeatedly singled out, Léa snaps and attacks someone at a party, leading her to leave the city.
Léa is a debut feature from director Bruno Rolland, co-written with lead actress Anne Azoulay, who plays the titular character. The film follows Léa as she moves to Paris for university, leaving behind her small-town life in Le Havre. Struggling financially and caring for her ailing grandmother, Léa resorts to stripping at a nightclub to make ends meet. Her double life takes a toll on her, leading to erratic behavior that affects both her personal relationships and academic performance. The film explores themes of financial struggle, mental health, and the pressures of young adulthood.
