After years apart from his Russian family, hitman Joshua returns to Brighton Beach for a mafia contract killing. His abusive father, Arkady, had banned him after his first murder. Joshua takes residence in a hotel, but news of his return spreads quickly. He visits his dying mother, Irina, preparing for the assassination while being drawn back into the criminal community he left behind.
Directed by James Gray, 'Little Odessa' (1994) is a gritty drama focusing on the return of Joshua, a cold-blooded professional killer, to his Brighton Beach boyhood home. The film explores themes of family dysfunction and the struggle with one's past. Despite limited plot details from sources, it's clear that the movie delves into the emotional turmoil Joshua faces upon reuniting with his estranged family amidst his return to his criminal roots.
