In the totalitarian society of the future, people are kept docile by drugs. THX 1138, a technician, stops taking his prescribed medication and begins to experience emotions for the first time. He starts an affair with LUH 3417, another drug-free individual. Their relationship is discovered and they are arrested. THX is sent to prison where he undergoes psychological testing but escapes after hearing voices that lead him back to LUH.
THX 1138 is George Lucas' directorial debut from 1971. Set in a dystopian future where individuality is forbidden, the film explores themes of drug addiction and mind control within a totalitarian regime. The movie focuses on THX 1138, an individual who stops taking his sedative pills, leading him to experience emotions and question the society he lives in.
