Private investigator Philip Marlowe is hired by Moose Mallley, an ex-convict, to find his former girlfriend, a lounge dancer who disappeared from a nightclub called The Black Zia. While investigating this case in Los Angeles, Marlowe becomes embroiled in another mystery involving the murder of his client, Mrs. Marks, and the theft of her jade necklace.
