Initially motivated by greed, Socha hides the refugees for 14 months in the sewers beneath his apartment building, charging them for their safety. As time passes, Socha's relationship with the Jews evolves, and he becomes deeply committed to protecting them. When German forces begin systematically searching the city's sewer systems, Socha faces escalating danger to keep his charges safe.
Resumen
Directed by Agnieszka Holland in 2011, In Darkness is a gripping historical drama that sheds light on an often overlooked aspect of World War II – Jews hiding in underground sewer systems to escape deportation and death camps. The film follows Leopold Socha, a thief who becomes embroiled in the plight of Jewish refugees when he discovers them hiding beneath his apartment building. Initially driven by self-interest, Socha's motives shift as he forms bonds with the refugees, transforming from a callous criminal into a courageous protector. In Darkness serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience and compassion that can emerge amidst unimaginable horror.
