Jack Torrance takes a job as the winter caretaker at the grand Overlook Hotel in Colorado with his wife Wendy and their son Danny. The hotel's past is shrouded in mystery and it soon becomes clear that the hotel has an influence over them. Danny begins experiencing supernatural occurrences, seeing visions of a ghostly twin girl who introduces herself as 'Tony'. Jack starts suffering from writer's block and grows increasingly antagonistic towards his family due to cabin fever and his growing obsession with the hotel's past glories.
Directed by Stanley Kubrick, 'Shining' is a psychological horror film based on Stephen King's novel of the same name. The story follows the disintegration of the Torrance family during their isolation in the Overlook Hotel over one winter. Despite being set within the horror genre, the movie is known for its atmospheric tension and slow build-up of terror rather than graphic violence or jump scares. It explores themes of mental illness, alcoholism, domestic abuse, and psychological disintegration.
