Karrine Steffans, born in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, had a troubled childhood with emotional and physical abuse, running away from home at 16 to become an exotic dancer. At 17, she had a son with rapper Kool G Rap, leaving Los Angeles to protect him after abuse landed her in the hospital. After moving to LA in 1999, she started her career as a video model, appearing in music videos for Jay-Z, R. Kelly, LL Cool J, and Mystikal. She transitioned into acting with a role in 'A Man Apart' (2003). Steffans is known for her writing; all three of her books - 'Confessions of a Video Vixen' (2005), 'The Vixen Diaries' (2007), and 'The Vixen Manual' (2009) - became New York Times bestsellers. She started her own publishing imprint, Steffans Publishing, in 2008.
